Environmental and Health Care Concerns
- Providence has underestimated operational emissions, which are based on an estimated daily trip rate that is inexplicably much lower than the rate set forth in standard reference materials.1
- Few, if any, of the needed patient services identified in a 2005 Providence Community Benefit Report appear to be met by Providence's proposed Patient Tower project. These services include mental health services and disease management for chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes.2
- Residents of nearby communities want a hospital that will address the real health care needs of the community. Simply adding more beds and expanding typically profitable services rather than what our community really needs is not sufficient.3
Traffic and Parking Problems
- The project will aggravate existing traffic problems by adding 1,606 cars per day, 331 alone during rush hour. The increased traffic will only worsen already congested Rinaldi Street.4
- The new car trips will make parking problems at the hospital worse. Visitors already park in the neighborhood when their lots are full, but Providence proposes removing 78 parking spaces.5 Unfortunately, the hospital's traffic study did not address the parking problems that will result from the increased cars entering the hospital.
